We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our Product team in the role of Senior Quality Assurance Engineer. Location is Remote (our teams are across multiple time zones) reporting to the Engineering Lead.

As a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer for Atomix.ai, you will be responsible for delivering high-impact work across our product and platform.

You will own quality engineering for Atomix's Platform end-to-end, from the browser down to the API, contracts, performance and security layers.

You will not be handed a test plan. You will analyse the problem, decide what to automate (and what deliberately not to), design the solution, and ship it. You own the centralised test suite, the release quality gates, and the signal the whole engineering team trusts before a version is promoted to production.

This is a build-and-own role, not a click-through-the-UI role. We currently operate on Cypress but transitioning towards — Playwright, Vitest, k6 and run it as Kubernetes Jobs on GKE. We need someone senior enough to build it, grow it, keep it fast and non-flaky, and make it the reason releases go out with confidence.

In this role you will:

  • Own the quality engineering pipeline and release gates. Our promotion flow is staging → UAT → prod, each gated by a required test suite. You define what "good enough to promote" means for each environment and enforce it in CI.
  • Build and extend automation across all test layers: E2E (Playwright, Page Object Model), API integration with schema validation, consumer-driven contract tests, performance (k6: smoke, load, spike, soak, stress, breakpoint), security scans, visual regression, and accessibility.
  • Design test architecture, not just tests. Shared clients, fixtures, auth helpers, environment configs, thresholds per environment. No duplicated utilities, no hardcoded URLs or credentials.
  • Run the suite on infrastructure. Tests are containerised and executed as GKE Jobs and CronJobs against staging/UAT/prod. You keep that reliable, and observable.
  • Own performance baselines. Define and maintain k6 thresholds per environment, run scenarios against the platform, stream metrics to InfluxDB/Grafana, and raise the alarm before a regression reaches customers.
  • Attack flakiness ruthlessly. A flaky suite is worse than no suite. You are accountable for the trustworthiness of every red build.
  • Write manual test scripts too. Not everything should be automated. Clear, human-followable exploratory and manual cases where they earn their place.
  • Collaborate on defects. Reproduce, triage, file, and drive faults to closure with the engineers who own the code. Identify quality issues before they become incidents.
  • Document as you go. Maintain ADRs for architectural decisions and a living knowledge base (learnings, patterns, troubleshooting, environment notes). Undocumented knowledge is treated as a defect.
  • Drive adoption. Make automation something engineers reach for, not something QA does to them. Onboard new contributors to the suite.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • 5+ years commercial experience in financial domain for quality/test engineering or software engineering with a testing focus.
  • Strong TypeScript/JavaScript. You write maintainable code, not brittle scripts. (Coming from Java/Selenium is fine if you are genuinely keen to switch — the suite is TypeScript-first.)
  • Deep hands-on with a modern E2E framework — Playwright preferred, Cypress or equivalent acceptable. Page Object Model or a comparable abstraction discipline; no raw selectors scattered through test files.
  • API test automation with response schema validation (Vitest + Zod), including auth-protected endpoints.
  • Performance testing with k6, JMeter, Gatling or similar — able to design a scenario, define meaningful thresholds, and interpret the output rather than just producing graphs.
  • CI/CD fluency. GitHub Actions or equivalent. You can build, debug and improve a pipeline yourself.
  • Docker. Comfortable containerizing test runs and debugging inside containers.
  • Git, branch-based workflows, code review as a normal part of your day.
  • Solid grasp of the Software Testing Life Cycle and its processes.
  • Clear judgement on what to automate and what not to — and why. We want the reasoning, not a coverage number.
  • Understanding of Kanban and Scrum, and what QA's role actually is inside each.
  • Risk-based test design: you can look at a lending flow and say which failure would cost the most.
  • Test data strategy: seeds, factories, cleanup, isolation between runs.
  • Collaborative and resourceful. Excellent written communication — most of our coordination is asynchronous.
  • Able to make firm decisions while staying empathetic and respectful.
  • Full ownership, works independently, and still pulls the team along.
  • Comfortable remote / telecommuting with Slack and async collaboration across time zones.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, tech-driven startup — early-stage or startup-to-midsize.

Bonus if you have:

  • Authentication protocols in depth — OIDC / OAuth2 / Keycloak. Our platform is Keycloak-fronted and our test auth strategy depends on understanding authorization-code-with-PKCE vs direct grant.
  • Kubernetes / GKE — running workloads as Jobs and CronJobs, namespaces, secrets, debugging a pod that will not start.
  • Security testing: penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, DAST (OWASP ZAP), template-based scanning (Nuclei), and awareness of the OWASP in a financial context.
  • Observability: Grafana, InfluxDB/Prometheus, reading dashboards to explain a latency regression.
  • Accessibility testing to WCAG standards (axe-core).
  • Visual regression testing and managing screenshot baselines without drowning in false positives.
  • Fintech / lending / payments domain experience — regulated flows, money movement, audit expectations, compliances GDPR, FCA, ISO27001, SOX2 and SOC.
  • Blockchain or early-stage blockchain project experience — a strong plus.
  • Open source contribution or maintenance.
  • AI-assisted engineering. Our test suite to be driven partly through AI tooling (Claude Code skills for test generation from HAR files and OpenAPI specs, review, and coverage analysis).
